A Toad and a Ratchet Wrench at 2 AM

I made a poll on Twitter on if I should write this article or not. The question was, "Should I write an article that demonstrates God's power to do miraculous things even though it will be met with skepticism (and probably disdain) by Atheists and Agnostics?" And you could answer yes or no. The poll was up for 3 days. It first got very few votes and the votes were all for yes, I should write it. Then it got tied. Then the votes said I should not and it was quite decidedly that way. I had been talking to atheists on Twitter so they must have visited my profile and saw the pinned Tweet and voted no. Then it tied. But then, when there were only 6 hours left to vote and it was the middle of the night, when I woke up, I had gotten about 12 more votes in favor that I should write the article. The poll ended up with 24 votes and 70.8% of people said I should write the article. This was the most voted on poll I've ever done yet. So here is that article.

It was one of those nights I couldn't sleep (which happens to me quite frequently). I was on my way outside to have a cigarette. It must have been about 2 AM or so. I made my way out the two sets of doors to go outside. When I made my way outside, I started walking to my usual spot to smoke.

And then something happened I did not expect. I had stepped on something and didn't know what it was. What I would say is that it felt like I stepped on something I would describe like rubber - similar to stepping on a pile of balloons that hadn't been blown up yet.

So I turn to look at what I stepped on I see there just so happened to be a toad where I had stepped. My throat literally dropped into my chest at that moment. He was very badly injured. He was going to die a slow painful death if I didn't do something. I recall there was blood on the pavement from where I stepped on him. He was messed up big time.

So I decided the best thing to do was to put him out of his misery so he didn't suffer any more than he had to. I begrudgingly made my way back in through the two sets of doors back into my apartment. I really am not a violent person at all so I didn't like the idea of having to kill something - even a toad that was about to die anyway.

As I was inside, I thought about what I could use to kill the poor thing. I started looking but didn't really see anything. Would have been a better choice would have been to get a knife and put it through his head. That way it would go straight through his brain and he would die almost instantly. Instead, I remembered I had a ratchet wrench - not like I actually use it much, but that's beside the point.

So I grab my wrench and I walk down the hall and just before I get to the first set of doors this thought goes through my head. Just a thought - and a bizarre one at that. The thought was to pray that the toad gets healed. At the time I thought, "Am I supposed to lay hands on it? Should I pray out loud? Never even heard of God healing an animal!"

Anyways, I put the thought out of my mind and get out to the second set of doors and I see the toad and he's just chilling there. I was utterly confused. He didn't seem like anything was wrong with him at all. One of the most confusing moments of my life to be honest. I pause before going out the second door - shocked in disbelief.

So I head out the second set of doors and go out to the toad. He had just been stepped on by something that probably weighs about 700x more than him, possibly more. Let that sink in. So I get a closer look at it. There's nothing wrong with it at all! I even picked it up to look it over. There's still nothing wrong with it! This blew my mind.

Now, I know what you might be thinking. "Toads sometimes pretend they are dead or injured so you leave them alone," but there is one thing that doesn't make sense if that is true. The blood that was on the pavement from when I stepped on him completely disappeared! I was going to take a picture of the blood as evidence that there was this miracle that happened (see article image for the picture I took of the toad after he was healed), but there was no blood!

Not only does this mean it is unlikely that he was just acting like he was injured (because afterward, he wasn't acting like that) but it also shows there is very little reason to think that someone originally planted a toad knowing where I would step and then replaced the stepped on the toad with a different toad. I say this because that is really the only naturalistic explanation I have for this event.

If someone wanted to make me think a miracle had happened when there was no miracle, then the obvious thing to do would be to leave the blood on the ground. I can't think of any other reason why someone would want to do that other than to make me look silly for being a Christian and believing in miracles.

Anyways, that is a real experience I have had.

Blessings. Until next time.
