US Culture Today

There is a lot going on in our US culture today. I don't intend this to be a comprehensive list at all. It is just what I have noticed and heard.

First, it should be understood that the right wing has had a tremendous impact on culture in the West today. Sure, you still have the woke elites or those who think of themselves as elites who the rest of the world thinks are nuts. And that is part of what makes what is going on in our culture today so nuanced and complex. Because I don't think all the woke people are suddenly going to have a change of heart out of the blue. However, more people are finding themselves amenable to the right wing as well.

There has been a tremendous shift in our culture from not caring much about things to wanting to believe in something. For many people, this is the right wing. The woke left are still caring about their causes. But now, there is another movement on the right. So you have options. However, from what I have seen, the right can be just as bad as the insanity of the far left--you know, the people who push using pronouns on children and such. But there is a section of the population that is inundated with the right to such an extent that I would even consider it very dangerous. We are talking about people who are Hitler sympathizers. Both options are very, very bad for our society. Where the far left lacks any semblance of common sense, the far right is dogmatic, and implementing their policies, if they have their way, would lead to many people not having human rights we all take for granted.

And let's not forget the "spiritual but not religious" crowd who may fall into either of these camps, which want all the spiritual perks of religion without subscribing to any one religion. They have essentially made their own personal religion. They have borrowed from the world religions and decided they know better than everyone else. They have essentially made God in their own image. Because when you build a religion based on all the given religions of the world, what you are really doing is creating a religion that looks exactly like you. There is nothing to change yourself to. There is no structure to which to be accountable. It's just you doing your own thing. The mantra of this movement is "True for you but not for me." It's inherently selfish because it assumes the world is your oyster and you can do whatever you want as long as you don't hurt anyone. This type of mentality might not be physically dangerous, but it surely is spiritually dangerous. We are talking about Ouija boards and tarot cards. Nothing harmless about these things. And it opens up the path to witchcraft. If you really want to mess up your life, there are very few options that will do this worse than the occult. In the worst cases, it can open you up to demonic possession.

Then there is the professional class. These people can either be religious or not, but their bottom line is making money. These are the people who always have a side hustle going on. They always have money coming in. They also have a bent towards gaining power. They want to be in control of their own life. They don't want anyone telling them what to do. They may overlook shady dealings people are involved in as long as it doesn't bother them personally. At its worst, they are looking to game the system and don't care who gets hurt in the process as long as they are making money or gaining power/influence. They have essentially seared their conscience for the bottom line.

Then you have people like me. I am far from perfect. I have my own faults. But I actually believe in being good for the sake of it. Call me white-pilled. I've tasted of the heavenly gift and there is no way I am going back. What's more, is that there seems to be the beginning stages of a revival going on in the mix of all these cultures here in the US and that is a very hopeful thought. It is my perspective, as I have learned something about the culture in the US and people in general, that things are very, very messy. We all have our faults. We all do things we know we shouldn't do. But I have security in my eternal future. I know what many people before me have known: that God Himself came to earth in the form of a human being, as a servant, thought nothing of himself, and even died one of the most terrible deaths a person could die. And he did it all willingly so that you and I could be forgiven. So that when God looks down on us, he doesn't see how sinful and horrible we are, but he sees His perfect child--Jesus Christ the righteous, who died as a sacrifice for the sins of the whole world. He is but a prayer away.

So, we all have problems. Some people can admit it and some people cannot. It takes humility to realize that you can't do or be what you want to all the time. It takes humility to find purpose in something other than yourself. But once you taste of God's goodness--really see what God offers you, there is no going back from that. It is the most meaningful existence a person can live. There is this quote from C.S. Lewis I will end with.
